SD and COMSAT are proud to support the Lucas Oil SilverHook powerboat racing team for the 2019 racing season by providing connectivity, including a Thales VesseLINK terminal and Iridium Certus service. The data transfer of the boat’s telemetry and a push-to-talk voice solution helped keep the team connected and maximize efficiency. In May, the team raced in the Space Coast Super Boat Grand Prix, which is one of the most popular offshore racing events in the country and draws the top race teams in the world to compete in various classes of races, with the premier class reaching speeds over 175 mph.
In June, the Lucas Oil SilverHook team accomplished a monumental feat by setting 3 new world records during the Ocean Cup 2019, and we were honored, once again, to support the team by providing the connectivity required to keep SilverHook connected to the nine support boats during this electrifying race. Reviving a historic ocean racing event from the 60s known as the Gateway Marathon, this course includes a two-way crossing of the Straits of Florida from West Palm Beach to Freeport, Bahamas and back. Achieving an average speed of 95 MPH, the team finished the first 100-mile leg of the journey in 1 hour 3 minutes and 40 seconds.
